Wednesday, April 02, 2003 ( 4/02/2003 12:39:00 PM ) Jeanne I've tried coming here to post, honestly, a few times and it was so slow to load I gave up. Not that this is really a matter of pressing importance considering that I'm unsure anyone but myself visits, regardless....Big news is that I was accepted in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois! The plan for now is to do a MS degree, but who knows they actually do have a Ph.D. program and I've been known to change my mind. The other news related to this is that just days after receiving my acceptance letter and seeding campus with my CV and various cover letters I actually landed a graduate assistantship at the Library of City Planning and Landscape Architecture. It is quarter time, so only 10 hours a week with a small stipend, but it completely pays for grad school and the building is right next door to Juan's office and only blocks from Sofia's daycare and the place we hope Micaela will go to school next year. The main reason I got the job is because of my web skills and the head librarian wants me to do stuff on their webpage as well as possibly setting up a tutorial and bibliography for entering students in the field. I'm looking forward to it! In other news I've joined a book group, enticed mainly by their name Normal Person's Book Discussion Group. So far I've only been to one meeting, but it was fun and I am currently trying to slog through what everyone I know says is a wonderful book, White Teeth. I just can't seem to muster any enthusiasm for it. I am about 99% sure that the author is an admire of John Kennedy O'Toole's A Confederacy of Dunces, which I happen to like much more. Kept Sofia home from preschool today and we walked to the Science Museum and then to the park for a picnic and playground time and finally to the library. I love living downtown! # |
